The School for Life aims to provide first class education to all of its students. In doing so, it re-invents the nature of schooling and the school environment. It aims to develop a school in which modern learning and knowledge generation are focused on addressing and solving real life problems, in a way which fosters social entrepreneurship and builds the strength of regional communities. The school is connected with the world, works for international understanding, prepares both for national and world citizenship, and yet maintains a local profile. Students are educated to be inspiring individuals with high social and intellectual standards and extensive entrepreneur skills.

What is the School for Life?

The key features of the School for Life approach are:

  • Learning as Discovery and Adventure – Students learn to solve problems in real-life situations rather than via pseudo-problems constructed for the classroom. Learning is focused on meaning and application, rather than learning for the sake of learning.
  • Value and Happiness Education – Students learn what it means to live in a changing society and believe in their own abilities. They understand that happiness is not derived from consuming but is derived from precepts, concentration, and wisdom.
  • Innovative Entrepreneurship – Children and adolescents are encouraged to develop an entrepreneurial spirit from the time they start kindergarten in order to help them develop into successful social and environmental entrepreneurs.
  • Leadership – Through specialized leadership coaching, students will be prepared for the undertaking of leadership roles and responsibilities.
  • Cultural Anchoring – Think global – act local – the students will be brought up as ‘Global Players’, whilst also being anchored in their culture of origin. Their local culture and values will be respected and used as a basis for the development of ideas.
  • Intercultural Competence – The School for Life places value in intercultural and international education. It relies on the diversity of culture and the unity of the desire for peace and international understanding.
  • Local and Regional Anchoring – The School for Life is not a spaceship without contact to the ground; it is a strongly anchored organization that is networked to its neighboring community and region. The School links community education with community development.
  • Centers of Excellence – The national curriculum is respected and complemented via Centers of Excellence which promote the learning and application of academic knowledge in real-world projects and mini-enterprises. The Centers of Excellence are not only Centers of learning, but also profit-centers.
  • Open Learning Community – In the innovative architectural design of the School, none of its features will be reminiscent of the barrack-like school buildings of the past. An Open Learning Community will be established, a place of living, working, and learning; a market of many opportunities.
  • Learning Through Research – The School for Life promotes curiosity and initiative among its students. Teachers adopt a coaching-oriented approach rather than unilateral learning methods. The children are research assistants who are actively involved in the projects and who know how to combine systematic and situational learning.
  • Mobility – The School for Life will build satellites in other countries and continents in order to offer their students early opportunities to experience the world by student exchange between the different Schools for Life.
  • National and International Certificates – Students have the choice between the national final exams and the International Baccalaureate, which is internationally recognized and allows them to study at top universities worldwide.
  • Departure from the ‘Museum School’ – The School for Life aims to address three common weaknesses found in today’s conventional schools, namely:
    • Closure of the gap between traditional curriculum content and reality through the application of situational learning;
    • The teaching of practical, broadly applicable skills and entrepreneurship in order to address the miscalculation that the labor market will automatically provide sufficient jobs; and
    • Application of a modern learning and management approach with a strong link between theory and practice, in place of traditional and outdated teaching and learning methods.
